TIP’s vision on connected and digital services is “to leverage data to empower our customers with real-time visibility, predictive analytics and fleet management optimisation".
To realise this vision, TIP has invested over the next 5 years in the set-up of a unified fleet management platform, the fleetwide deployment of telematics devices on the TIP fleet and their customers’ fleet and associated programmes and strategies to deliver data-enabled solutions as well as productivity gains. These solutions and benefits are expected to come from developing innovative, smart predictive algorithms and advanced analytics combining data gathered from the vehicles together with data available in TIP’s business systems or from external sources. This new business line will allow TIP to transform its business model by driving growth in new sectors and new ways.
The Data Engineer for digital & connected services will be responsible for the data architecture needed to align with business needs and ETL pipelines to extract raw data (or structure data from other systems), transform the data, and then load it into the data-store to be used by the business. To date the building of the TIP Insight Azure platform has consisted of:
Data architecture design (Integration & Analytics)
Set up and use resources in Azure
Data Factory (ETL pipelines & automation)
API Development (Azure Functions) for both REST & SOAP services
RDBMS design & Setup (Azure SQL DB)
Development done in Python & SQL
Azure Key-Vault (security)
TIP’s strategic ambition is to get to a fully connected fleet and data enabled services and productivity gains that translates into an ambitious plan from revenue growth and savings. TIP is expecting to achieve significant annual revenues and considerable cost savings as well as several new products and services brought to market with an estimated connected fleet of more than 40.000 in the coming years.
Readily available offering includes continuous mileage management in relation to leasing and rental, TPMS-enabled tyre servicing, KPI-based contract maintenance and telematics as a rental product (track and trace, reefer and/or EBS monitoring data services as an add-on).
New data products to be introduced are envisioned around new form of mobility solutions (pay-per-use, PPK, fleet pooling, asset sharing) and predictive maintenance (EBPMS in the UK, breakdown avoidance, fuel efficiency, fleet-level TCO optimisation).
Based on the current project plans and current analytics platform design, responsibilities include:
Maintenance of existing APIs and ETL pipelines
Lambda architecture design & development
Setting up Azure Datalake
Setting up event processing system (Azure Event Hubs)
Setting up data processing system (Azure Databricks)
Setting up data-exposure
Push to BI data warehouse
NoSQL DB setup
Qualifications & Experience
Programming languages: SQL AND at least one of the following - Python, Java, Scala
Relational databases (RDBMS / SQL) and Non-relational databases (NoSQL)
Software engineering principles: Writing clean code, testing, API development, network communication protocols (SOAP, REST, FTP, SFTP…), requirements gathering, and documentation.
Data visualization / exposure
Data architecture design (Streaming, Batch)
Distributed systems (Hadoop, Spark, and similar technologies)
Creating scalable, automated, and monitorable data pipelines
Excellent organisation, problem solving, communication, prioritisation and facilitation skills.
Team player with a collaborative mindset
Ability to deliver against demanding deadlines and key milestones.
Fluent in English
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, in a multi-cultural environment
Must be legally authorized to work in the European Union
